Frontera Estate

Introduction

Ever since seeing the Vauxhall Frontera in the 1990's driving through the UK forests as "Safety Cars" on the what was then called Network Q RAC Rally, I wanted one. It would be quite a number of years though until I could afford one.

In 2002, a need to change my car and a bit of saved up cash coincided, so I started to research Fronteras. The internet is an excellent place to do research and it was not long before I had determined I wanted a 2.8 turbo diesel estate version of the Frontera. Little did I know at the time that this particular model was the most desirable and that they were only available for two years when new.

After ten months of searching, I came across N783 FGS - six years old and with only 46,000 miles on the clock and a full service history.

In September of 2002 I had my Frontera

The early years.

In February 2003, the Estate got it's first introduction to mud at a 4x4 Pay & Play site at Aston Cantlow, organised by 4x4 Funday. Even on (new) road bias tyres, the Frontera performed admirably, giving great confidence in what this vehicle could actually do.

Later that year I would source a new wrap-around bull bar and a second set of wheels shod with Colway Mud Terrain tyres.

2004 also saw my reintroduction to motor sport marshalling and what better vehicle for a base of operations than a 4x4. 2005 would see me become a Motor Sports Association Authorised operator of their Safety & Medical Radio Frequency and I would find myself parked up in a forest almost every other weekend throughout the next couple of years.

2005 to date.

At Christmas 2004 I treated myself to a broadband internet connection and soon discovered internet discussion forums. Initially a member of my4x4.co.uk, I later joined http://www.fronteraowners.co.uk/forums and have never looked back.

Having access to a single make discussion forum such as the Frontera Owners Group (FOG), has not only allowed  me to maintain my Frontera myself, but to also share my own and other members experience and modifications, not to mention the social aspect.

More soon...
